The People

Mykonos has a population of around 11,000 of which around one third are foreign residents. The local people are famous for their hospitality and friendliness.

The people of Greece are both religious and have strong family values, the people of Mykonos are no different. Although more liberal minded than most Greeks, the majority of local people are Greek Orthodox and go to church regularly. You may be surprised to know that Mykonos is home to more that 400 churches.

The lifestyle of the islanders is laid-back and easy going. Throughout the year the local people hold many festivals and religious celebrations that are very popular with the tourists.
